We’re creating the best housing for the city’s smallest residents.
Most of decisions are made in cities, but biodiversity lives outside them. At Humblebee, we close that gap. We turn rooftops into functional habitats—because a building is only as healthy the ecosystem it inhabits.
The problem:
the "decision-nature" gap
75% of crops depend on pollinators, yet our cities remain ecological deserts. In Finland, one-third of our 225 wild bees species are classified as endangered.
Our urban honeybees act as Essential Ambassadors to their wild cousins, sparking conversations in boardrooms where critical environmental decisions are made.
Our impact
The research beehives
For partners who need to move from doing good to "measuring results", our Research Beehives turn the colony into a high-tech environmental sensor, turning 60,000 bees into a Research Team. We do it through:
DNA Pollen Sequencing
Using DNA technology to analyze pollen, we identify exactly which plant species are thriving—and which are missing—in your neighborhood.
Bio-Indicator Health Check
We analyze honey and wax for heavy metals and pesticides. This provides a "Health Check" for the area.
Global contribution
This data is part of a global scientific network, mapping urban health, biodiversity, and research about pollinator’s conservation.
Data you can taste.
A jar of Humblebee honey is a "Liquid Map" of your neighborhood.
While industrial honey can be a blend of everywhere and nowhere, our honey is site-specific: a liquid record of every flower within your hive's reach, brought by the industrious workers that make everything bloom.
Guiding values of a Humble Hive
We believe cities can be wilder and more full of life.
We choose experimentation over perfection.
Nature is our greatest teacher — and so is Finnish design.
